Wait time by role
Wait times follow fixed slots on the clock. You play at 14:23 with a 20 min wait? Your next move opens at 14:40, not at 14:43.
Stacking: if you have several roles, the shortest wait applies.
Your step reserve
Your first 5 moves are free: no wait, you keep going. A treasure is marked on your map to give you a direction. Then the reserve takes over.
- Time doesn't give you the right to move, it makes steps for you.
- Each wait that runs out gives you 3 steps at once. Spend them whenever you like, in a row if you want: enough for a real little session instead of a lone step.
- Your reserve tops out at 3 steps. Waiting longer doesn't give you more: steps don't pile up with the waiting time.
- The shop sells a 4th, then a 5th, then a 6th step, for good: each one adds a step to your reserve and to what each wait gives back.
- One reserve per mode: spending your steps in easy doesn't touch the ones in hard.
- The Faster! and Second wind boosts fill your reserve faster. They don't raise the cap.
- The Chains penalty holds you back even when your reserve is full: it costs one more wait, otherwise it would cost nothing to anyone with steps saved up.
Game modes
You can have one game in progress per mode at the same time (map 5 in normal and map 1 in easy, for example).
Easy

Normal

Hard

Impossible
A penalty hides the squares you had uncovered again. You don't move and you keep your progress: you just have to light up the dark again.
Hardcore
permadeath · one penalty and the whole game is wiped
Bonuses & penalties
Stepping on a surprise square triggers one of these 18 effects, at random. None is hidden. Draw chances: Common 60% · Rare 30% · Epic 10%.
In easy mode, surprise squares show on the map before you step on them. In the other modes, you find them when you arrive.

- Rare Second windYour cooldown is shorter for a while. The Faster! item in the shop hits harder and lasts longer, and you trigger it when you want: the better of the two always applies.
